10 books on my reading list for 2023
I don't read as much as I used to. My commute to work was my reading time but because of remote working: no commute = less reading. So I need to find other times during my week to read. Some of these I bought last year, some even longer, but I plan to read them all this year.
1. Never finished by David Goggins
Most self-help authors are full of BS. Goggins is different. He has over 5.6 million followers on Instagram but himself, he follows zero accounts. He lives everything he says and doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks. I read Cant Hurt Me years ago and loved it. Looking forward to what he has to say in his second book.
2. Discipline is destiny by Ryan Holiday
This is the only book I have ever pre-ordered. I enjoy Ryan's simple yet informative writing style. This is the second book in his stoic virtues series.
3. The score takes care of itself by Bill Walsh
Bought this years ago but never started. Don't know why as I am always fascinated by sports books written by coaches as it alwasy offers a different insight.
4. Letters from a stoic by Seneca
I discovered this philosphy years ago and it immediately resonated with me. It's interesting to realise that people thousands of years ago still suffered many of the same mental problems we face today.
5. The Frackers by Gregory Zuckerman
I dont know much about fracking other than it seems controversial. But I have loved the authors other books on John Paulson and Jim Simons
6. Moonwalking with Einstein by Joshua Foer
Another one I bought a while ago and have never read but the concept of the author improving his memory to become a national champion intrigues me.
7. The comfort crisis by Michael Easter
I started reading this then put it down. Talks about the Japenese cleansing ritual of Misogi and how suffering can help up to achieve great things. Need to pick it back up again.
8. The StatQuest illustrated guide to machine learning by Josh Starmer
Love the youtube channel. Now time to read the book.
9. The cold start problem by Andrew Chen
I've always wondered how network ecosystems start ups grow. Companies like Uber, or Airbnbface the same problem. In order for the product to be vaulable you need users, but in order to get users you need services. Keen to find out what he says.
10. A confederancy of dunces by John Kennedy Toole
I found this penguin classic edition in a thrift shop for $2. Might as well give it a shot.
