10 Hints for People who Hate Shopping for Gifts.

I am not a fan of shopping. I like online shopping even less. And trying to buy gifts for loved one's completely wrecks any joy I get from the act of giving. If you are like me, then maybe here are some things to help. (I tried to get the AI to assist on this one but couldn't get my prompt phrasing quite correct.

    1. Just Don't

If something causes this much negative stress in your live. Maybe just skip it. But this doesn't feel right to me.

    2. Outsource It.

I do this around the holidays to some degree. My spouse covers the majority of the gift buying for our family. But this system has obvious limitations

    3. Buy from a list or registry

We're trying something new this year and using a website that combines Secret Santa and a registry of items that person might like. Sounds like fun but I still haven't bought anything.

    4. Make instead of buy

Unfortunately, I am not the least bit talented in this arena. For me, this is potentially worse than doing nothing. Great option for others though.

    5. Schedule time to shop at the store.

Preferably a week day. Preferably the middle of the day. Between 1AM and 6AM is also a good time to visit stores if your schedule and theirs allow it.

    6. Gift Certificates

This is a very popular option for some people but it feels like cheating to me

    7. Cash

    Ditto.

    8. Tickets

This can be a great choice if you know of some venue, event, etc. that the person would really enjoy AND is available. It might require some advance notice and scheduling though.

    9. Scratch-off Lottery Tickets

I find this a good choice for friends. Not as great for family. Not really a good idea for kids. You pay a relatively nominal cost for the ticket. I always choose one that incorporates some sort of game or challenge. The gift recipient gets the fun of "playing the card". And there is always the potential of a much larger gift than the original outlay. To me, this seems like fun for both people exchanging gifts.
