10 irritating or dangerous “features” of 2 recent rental cars
First five from Chrysler minivan , second 5 from Jeep Renegade.
1. Headlights on in all 4 positions
The first position the tail lights are NOT ON so I drove on the highway at night for 2 hours with no tail lights. After someone told me what happened I noticed a few other minivans driving without tail lights.
2. Phone pairing inconsistent
3. Complex screen menus while driving to do things like change music or AC
4. Cruise control jumps up in 5 mph increments
Every other cruise control I have used you don’t need to look at it: you hold while you accelerate and let go at your speed.
5. Related to 4: the car will floor it to reach speed
So I held the cruise like usual and let go when I hit 65 mph. Then the car took off! I looked down and the cruise was set for 100 mph!
6. Poor visibility
Even though there is a lot of glass I guess the pillars are quite wide and the mirrors don’t show much.
7. Engine shuts off at stoplight
Lots of cars do this but on the jeep the starting is a hard start every time and the whole car shakes when it shuts off and shakes again when it starts back up. You don’t have power to the wheels for 10 to 15 seconds every single time you go to a stoplight.
8. Engine does not shut off when you put it in park
This would be a much more obvious time to shut the engine off. I prefer to manage my own engine.
9. “Automatically “ puts you in park!
i was in a parking lot and needed to reposition the car. I rolled back about 4 feet and the car suddenly shifted into park! It gave me a message saying so but did not tell me why. I tried to roll forward and the same thing happened. I realized that it was because the driver door was not completely closed.
10. Bluetooth key fob did not seem to unlock the door automatically
This could be a Jeep thing with the removable doors or operator error (me) but this was a minor nuisance.
