10 of my favourite UK Comic Characters
British comics were dominated by DC Thompson who were based in Dundee Scotland. Our comic heroes were much simpler with their worlds are dominated by capital punishment and eating food. This was defiantly the case in the 1970's with the comic characters almost still having a post second world war vibe . Compared to American comics our heroes were
1. Desperate Dan
A cowboy who was as strong as an ox and loved to eat cow boys , however his wild west was a Victorian Version of England with red post boxes and brass bands. Who was the strongest man in the world

2. Billy Whizz
The fastest boy in the world who was enthusiastic as well as fast

3. The Numbskulls
Our heads didn't have brains but were full of little people instead. Forerunners to "Inside Out"

4. The Bumpkin Billionaires
A bit like the Beverly Hillbillies however the simple farming family would hanker for the simple life and try and lose there fortune only to make more money

5. Frankie Stein
A bumbling but good heated monster based on the looks of Boris Karloff's Frankenstein's monster

6. Bash Street Kids
A gang of school kids and their hapless teacher

7. Dennis The Menace
A character who always got up to mischief but had to avoid his dads slipper

8. Lord Snooty
The tales from an Upper Class Posh boy who would often buy himself out of trouble with food and feasts

9. Billy Bunter the heavyweight chump of Greyfriars
Another public school boy, but more bothered about having the food for himself

10. Harry and his Hippo
Just a boy with his hippopotamus who liked to eat
