10 of the best Asian foods you have to try at least once
I haven't tried all foods but I have tried to pick a few more 'exotic' things that typical people may not have tried.
1. Sushi
Some people love it. Some people hate it. I was exposed to it when I was younger and have always loved it. Don't go for the cheap stuff either - eat sushi where the seafood is fresh. If you need to pick one sushi to eat, try my favourite: toro (it's fatty tuna belly).
2. Dim sum
Try the shrimp dumplings (ha gow - rhymes with krakow) and pork siu mai
3. Capelins
Tasty little fish with 'roe' inside. Pan fry them for a delicious treat.
4. Durian
Durian is called the king of fruits. It's got an awful smell and people either love it or hate it. I don't like it but you should try it at least once.
5. Beggar's chicken
I ordered this dish in China - it was wrapped up in what looked like garbage you see on the street but inside was a delicious treat of chicken, veggies, seafood and other great combinations of food.
6. Bubble tea
When I tried to explain this to my friends, it sounds like the weirdest thing. It's normal tea, sometimes sweetened with fruit or other flavors and there are tapioca balls inside that you chew. Sounds weird. Tastes great.
7. Mapo tofu
Translates to "grandma tofu" - it's what I think as comfort food.
8. Szechuan hot pot
Never has something been so painful but so tasty at once. Eating this will clear your head and sinuses.
9. Natto
Fermented beans. Don't knock it until you try it.
10. Grass jelly
Grass jelly is kind of like jello but it's not sweet unless you've added something sweet to it. Get in a hard workout and then order a bubble tea with grass jelly in it. Thank me later.
