10 Points (including some benefits) of being an introvert
Just to define: an introvert is better able to get energized when by themselves. And an extrovert gets energized among people, like at a party, a dinner with a bunch of people, etc.
A couple of examples from my life:
- I could perform standup, or make a speech, to a 1000 people no problem. But if I then talk to people afterwards, I get quickly depleted.
- I love having one on one time with people, but cant stand dinner parties with a passion.
- At parties I can survive for about a half hour and then have to leave or at least sit in another room for awhile.
- An introvert can't usually go from one meeting to the next, but an extrovert can from from morning to night having meetings.
Some benefits of being an introvert.
A) you will listen better
B) you will read more. Maybe even write more or plan more or be more creative.
C) you will think about your relationships more and what they mean to you.
D) you will enjoy your time by yourself and appreciate the times when you are alone.
E) you will be more creative about how to avoid group events where you know you will have no fun.
1. you will listen better
This is a generalization, of course, and not always true.
2. you will read more. Maybe even write more or plan more or be more creative.
3. you will enjoy your time by yourself and appreciate the times when you are alone.
4. you will be more creative about how to avoid group events where you know you will have no fun.
5. Benefits for being an extrovert
You will probably have more fun at parties.
6. You will be a better networker at group events like conferences or meetups.
7. You will be a good conversationalist at dinner parties
Again, this is a generalization and not a blanket true statement.
8. Can introverts and extroverts be in a relationship
Yes, definitely, but both have to respect the needs of the other and set boundaries around what they need and want. But I do think it would be difficult for an extreme introvert with an extreme extrovert.
9. Introverts would probably be better at solitary activities
Like writing, or a game like chess. Or computer programming
10. Extroverts would probably excel at jobs that require more interactions
Sales, for instance. I find I'm good at sales but not the extroverted part of it - which is followup. Organizing events.
11. Is it better to be one or the other?
I don't know. Sometimes I'm really sad being an introvert. If I'm with people who are extroverts and I have to go along to get along sometimes I become miserable. But I really enjoy the times I am by myself doing things I love.
