10 practical life skills
H/T to @RayInNJ ! Most of these are taught in the Boy Scouts.
1. Tying knots: bowline, half hitch, Trucker’s Hitch
2. Basic emergency First aid
Hopefully, you won't have to use it. My dad had to apply the Heimlich once to someone in a restaurant: the ribs were broken (my dad was 6'2 300+lbs) but the guy was so grateful because my dad saved his life. Also things like making a tourniquet out of a belt.
3. What compound interest really means when it works for you and against you
4. how to fix drywall
5. basic painting
6. how to use a cordless drill/screw gun
The cornerstone of my toolkit
7. how to change a tire and/or call AAA
I have been losing this battle: at least the AAA can be an option.
8. basic math in your head and with a pencil
Being able to do quick percentage calculations and addition/subtraction in your head will help you avoid getting ripped off. It also helps you instantly understand things that others are confused by: why is my bill so high?
