10 reasons to measure with Imperial Units or Metric
Growing up in the US raised.
1. Imperial is good for human sized things
2. A gallon is a “perfect “ size for milk
Just really used to it but a convenient size.
3. Feet are good for board sizes when building houses or shelves
Easy to see the difference between 8 feet and 10 feet. Harder to use 2.4 meters vs 2.5 meters.
4. A foot is a useful size: 4 feet is easy to visualize
There is no obvious equivalent in metric: 25 cm.
5. Metric is better for small calipers
I have digital calipers that can be set to Imperial but it jumps between 16/64 and 33/128. Much easier to read and use 2.3 mm
6. Metric is great for small bolts
Easy to standardize and fewer choices
7. Metric is better for Allen wrenches
8. Grams are a better way to measure small things with a kitchen scale
Coffee, etc.
9. Inches are established for guitar string gauges
You “play 9s” when your E string is 0.009 inches thick
10. Metric is an easy way to compare sizes of products on line
Instead of trying to compare 20 inches with 2 feet bigger numbers are always bigger.
