10 Reasons Why I Like to Record My Ideas on Paper

This is a semi sequel to a list I posted about two years ago on why I like using a steno book to record ideas. You can check it out here when you're done reading this list: https://notepd.com/idea/10-reasons-why-i-use-a-steno-book-to-record-ideas-3ho8s

This list is more about why I like writing my ideas on paper first before I post them here.

    1. I Don’t Need to Drag Out My Laptop or Type My Ideas on a Tiny Phone Screen

I usually keep my laptop in a closet when I'm not using it, so it's nice to have an option for writing down ideas without having to take it out. I'm also not a fan of using a touch screen keyboard for more than typing a website address or sending a short text to someone.

    2. I Can Keep My Steno Book Next to My Laptop and Randomly Write down Ideas Without Having to Open NotePD or a Desktop Word Processor

When I do have my laptop out, I can still keep my steno book next to me so I can write down any ideas that pop into my head without having to open a new tab in my browser or a different application which would disrupt my workflow.

    3. I Automatically Have a Backup for Lists I Post Here

In case the worst happens and I lose access to the website, I still have most of my lists on paper.

    4. I Already Have a First Draft Done When I Create My NotePD Idea List

I can take a little time to edit and punch up idea lists for the public. Sometimes it might not look like it from some of my lists, but I try my best.

    5. I Feel More Free to Write Truly Horrid Idea Lists That Should Never See the Light of Day

Some of the ideas I come up with are so bad I wouldn't even post them to a private list. Having the freedom to let my worst ideas out of my head gives it more room to come up with different and sometimes better ideas.

    6. The Really Bad Lists Can Sometimes Contain Seeds for a Better List

Even a really bad list can contain an idea or two that can make for the start of a decent list of it's own.

    7. I’m Forced to Think of Ideas Without the Aid of AI

As AI becomes more and more prevalent, it is more important than ever to keep your own mind sharp. Handing more and more of our creativity and decision making to machines can only lead to catastrophic effects on society and culture.

What will become of us as a society when people outsource all mental effort to a machine?

    8. I Can Record Ideas Anywhere Without Worrying About a Device Holding a Charge or Having WiFi Available

I'll still need a light source, pen, and paper so it isn't perfect, but what is in this physical reality?

    9. Writing Is More Stimulating Than Typing

Writing is also slower than typing so I need to think more deliberately about the words I'm putting on the page.

    10. It Lessens the Likelihood of Distractions While Creating a List

A sheet of paper can't open YouTube or boot up a game.

    11. I Can Create a Mind Map Without Having to Find Specialized Software

This is #11 since this isn't something I do regularly, but I want to start doing this since it could lead to me making more interesting connections between things I'm thinking about.
