10 Sure-Fire Ways to Screw Up Your Day
Don't do these things.
1. Wake up late.
You're immediately starting the day off behind. It doesn't mean you can't still have a good day, but it just got a little more challenging to do it.
2. Miss your workout.
Workouts can be five minutes or five hours long. It doesn't matter how much you do so long as you do it every day. Missing a workout means your brain won't fire as fast as it would otherwise, you won't get the blood flowing to your extremities, and you won't feel as good.
3. Don't follow some form of task/to-do list.
People who tell me they don't need a calendar/task/time management/to-do list of some variety are typically people who do so little with their lives they really don't need them. I don't believe in fully living one's life by such tools, but they are indispensable if you're trying to do big things with your life.
4. Be disrespectful to someone.
This one needs no explanation. Never do it.
5. Intentionally let someone down.
Sometimes letting people down inadvertently happens. If you are doing it intentionally, however, you are probably burning a lot more energy hating on people than burning energy on pursuing things you love.
6. Be late.
When you're late, you're telling those waiting on you that you are more important than them, your priorities matter most, and that everyone should kneel and kiss your ring. Don't be that person.
7. Spend money on something you immediately regret buying.
It's always best to make purchases with intentionality. What will this thing provide me? How will it benefit my life or the lives of my loved ones? If you can't provide yourself with satisfactory answers to these questions, pause for 24 hours and then ask yourself again if you truly want to make this purchase.
8. Eat junk food.
Unless you want to feel bloated, have cloudy thinking, feel sleepy, experience intestinal distress, and eventually get cancer.
9. Forget to drink coffee.
Duh.
10. Lose touch with your core values.
In my view, living as much of your life by your core values is the path to living the most self-actualized life. Try to do as few things on autopilot as possible without considering why you're doing it.
