10 Things I look for in a good remote work destination
I have the benefit of being able to work completely remotely, so I try to travel frequently. I figure that I won't have this opportunity forever, so I want to make the most of my job conditions for now. Here's an idea list that explains a few of the factors that impact my choice of place.
1. Good wifi
Absolutely essential for work
2. Security
Lately I've been traveling with friends, but, as a frequent solo female traveler, security is very important to me.
3. Time zone
Most of my team is on EST, so I try to work from this time zone as much as possible.
4. A feeling of discovery
This is hard to describe, but it's one of my favorite things about traveling. I love seeing new places.
5. Good food
I love eating, so this is one of my favorite parts of going anywhere. By "good" food I don't mean expensive food but simply tasty local cuisine.
6. A good currency conversion rate
These fluctuate constantly, so it's not like currency conversion rates factor immensely into my decision. Still- I do try to take advantage of places where the dollar is strong.
7. Purchasing power
Similarly to the last point, I try to prioritize places where my salary goes a long way.
8. Good weather
Good can mean warm or cool, but typically just not rainy.
9. Cheap flights
Back to the monetary considerations... a place can meet all my other criteria, but if it costs an arm and a leg to get there, I'm probably not going.
10. I speak the language
This is more of a "nice to have" than a "need to have", but it makes the whole trip easier and less intimidating.
