10 things I missed from not making lists

Ileft the NotePD platform during the bot invasion of 2023. Without this interface and publicly posting my interest stopped after about two days and I just didn’t make lists.

    1. I got a lot less done.

An easy list to make is a to-do list. When you’re trying to think of one more thing you can clean you can get those 2-3 extra things done every weekend that you might not have thought of. These compound.

    2. My thoughts tended to drift more into confusion.

Thinking in a structured way every day for a few minutes helps keep you on track.

    3. I missed quite a few opportunities to improve things.

I see an opportunity for 10 ways to do something or 10 things I need to bring up in a meeting.

    4. I missed the sense of camaraderie, even if it’s just a few people.

    5. I missed the feeling of accomplishment and maintaining a streak.

little microscopic wins of completing something simple every day does have a profound long-term benefit.

    6. I miss my drive for accomplishing tasks.

From an outside perspective, I might not look like any kind of world beater, but I do consistently have lots of small projects and lists help me think of them and execute them.

    7. I stopped pushing myself so consistently to learn new things.

I have always been a learner, but lists really help set goals. Thinking about doing something helps expand your mind.

    8. I had been picking up good habits and maintaining them, but I kind of stopped coinciding with stopping the list.

By writing something kind of silly sounding, like 10 exercises that a middle-aged man can do today, and reflecting on it for a minute, I realize that I really can just walk out the door and go for a walk and then by following through on that, I increase my health by a tiny amount each time I do it.

    9. I miss taking time out to plan and reflect.

This part of list making is important.

    10. I probably missed out on three or four really good ideas that I didn’t have.

If you make a list of 10 ideas every day for a year, you will think about 3650 ideas. If even 1/10 of 1% of those are good ideas that's 3.65 good ideas that you might not have had otherwise.
