10 Things I Want to Learn This Winter

Preview

    1. How to Paint Miniature Figurines

Warhammer, Blood Bowl, etc. Even DnD themed figures. I loved painting and arts as a child, and I enjoy building things these days. What a cool skill to have! Some of these mini artists are unreal.

    2. Backgammon Midgame Techniques

I've practiced opening game methods. Time to add in midgame. Arguably the hardest part of backgammon because it's so open-ended.

    3. 7-String Guitar

I've played 6 string for more than 20 years, but never tried 7 string. They're great for metal and jazz.

    4. Re-Learn the Drums

I suppose I never forgot, but I haven't played on a live kit in about 15 years.

    5. "Practice Tracking"/Using Parts of Songs to Practice Music

I don't even know what this is called, but it's the process of eliminating a certain portion of a song (like the drums) so you can play along with the band but not interfere with the existing track. I don't even know what it entails. Do you buy special tracks where you can turn off certain instruments? Do you just run the track through a mixer and find the frequencies where most of that instrument "lives"? Interesting!

    6. Small-Scale Woodworking

I started hacking stuff together this month. I like the process and there are cool hand-made woodjoining techniques that seem great to figure out.

    7. Not So Small-Scale Woodworking

I'd like to build a custom-sized game table for my house sometime before next year or next spring. Nothing fancy, just the right proportions and sturdy.

    8. A New Kind of Workout

I don't even know what that might be. I just know I'm ready to add something new and interesting into my regular workout schedule mix. Keep things fresh and challenge myself in new ways.

    9. Better Book Layouts

I did my own layouts for my game book, Legacy of the Cage: The Gauntlet, but there is a lot more to learn here.

    10. Integrating More Sources of Energy, Income, and Knowledge

I have around ~3 sources of income (investments and 2 businesses - 1 highly profitable, the other more in the just-getting-started phases) and I'm interested in finding 1 more to experiment with.
