10 things that show we're living in the future
You know that feeling of "Damn, we're in the future"? Like, 100 years ago or even 50 years ago, people imagined what 2024 would be like, and this is pretty close. Sometimes I get hit with that feeling. I think "This could be a movie about the future a few decades ago".
1. Talking with ChatGPT Voice Mode to learn a language
This is what made me write this list. I've never felt this feeling as strongly as when practicing my Spanish with ChatGPT Voice Mode while walking on the streets of Valencia. It felt INSANE. Because it is. My phone is in my pocket, I'm wearing WIRELESS EARPHONES, and I'm just TALKING WITH A ROBOT WHO'S COACHING ME IN SPANISH.
At some point it forgot the whole conversation and was like "Hola, qué tal?", and shortly after it told me I reached the messaging limit, but I got to play with it for about 40 minutes.
2. Liquid meals
I drink at least one Plenny Shake from Jimmy Joy daily (these days at least two). Other brands do this too. It's a complete meal. Now of course it's processed food and I assume you're better off eating real stuff, but nonetheless this is extremely convenient.
3. Jet packs
In the UK they started using "jet suit paramedics". I don't know if it got officially implemented or not, but they certainly tested it out.
4. Wi-fi on planes
Or just planes. Or just wi-fi.
5. VR headsets
6. The fact that you can make a living working on your laptop from basically anywhere in the world
7. Modern medicine
8. Covid lockdowns
That was kinda dystopian.
9. Military drones
10. That thing that's gonna allow us to have a chip in our hands to pay for things
No thanks.
