10 things to do when you're bored
For integrity's sake: I don't really experience boredom any more. What I used to think was boredom, I simply recognize as peace. These are more things to do when there is nothing that I absolutely HAVE to do. They lead me more toward experiencing it as peace than boredom.

1. Play guitar.
2. Play Guild Wars 2.
Doesn't require a monthly subscription. You can play for free and do a lot, and buying an upgrade is a one-time purchase. Plays well solo or with a group.
3. Write.
Anything. Best: make progress on a long-term project. Read The War of Art for inspiration.
4. Wash dishes/catch up on laundry/other chores I've put off.
5. Meditate.
6. Make lists.
This doesn't just exercise the idea muscle. It often starts something I find exciting.
7. Play with the cat.
He models peace vs. boredom. On the other hand, he is always up for trying once again to catch the red dot.
