10 things to point attention to while playing drums
1. Drum throne height
So many drummers are not paying attention to a proper sitting height. It hurts your legs, your back, your drumming and it looks weird. The biggest BS I hear is that "I used to play this way when I was young. I got used to it". You used to play this way because you didn't have a proper throne. That's it. Open a whole new world for yourself.
2. Stroke angle
This one follows #1. The angle should be around 20 degrees. This way you hit the snare with a whole tip of the stick, it gives fat and open sound.
3. Cymbals angle
The cymbal should be tilted slightly to the drummer, in this way you will be able to hit it with a drum stick shoulder to give it an open sound.
4. Foot technique
5. Dynamique
Drums are about being loud. Ok. Not always about this. So drummers should pay attention to a wide range of available dynamics. Between foot, drums, cymbals.
6. Hi-Hat height
For someone, the hi-hat height above the shoulder looks super duper cool. However, in this way, you are hitting a cymbal almost perpendicularly, it destroys the sound and your sticks.
7. Tempo
Amen.
8. Bass line
Bass and drums are friends forever. Sit together with bass in a pocket.
9. Hyperbolise your strokes
It will help you to be relaxed, physically and in a way you look.
10. Have fun
Amen, #2.
