10 Things to Stop RIGHT NOW
1. Worrying about the future
Most of the things I've worried about in the past have either not happened or not been as bad as I imagined them to be. I can't remember most of the stuff I used to worry about either!
Worrying rarely changes anything anyway - the outcome is the outcome.
2. Spending so much time on social media
@BillBergeman sparked a thought about social media for me. Although I still use Instagram, I post once a week and rarely look at the app otherwise. My use of Twitter had dropped off. I hadn't been on Pinterest for ages. (I've since deleted both these apps).
For a long time, I couldn't understand how people like Paul Jarvis and Alexandra Franzen could leave social media altogether. But I'm beginning to get it.
It's so easy to spend an inordinate amount of time scrolling. What could we do instead? How far could we take our dreams if we focused more effectively?
3. Caring what other people think
I care less now, as I get older, than I did when I was in my twenties and thirties.
The funny thing is, most people are so busy thinking about themselves that they don't notice what you're doing anyway!
4. Putting things off
What do you want to do with your life?
The sooner you can work that out, the sooner you can make headway. It's so easy to think you have to wait, there's still plenty of time, or that later will come.
What can you do now? What's your big dream and how can you start to make it happen?
Sometimes you just have to take the first step and the rest will follow.
5. Being with the wrong person
It's easy to say this in hindsight but I've been there, got the t-shirt and learned the lesson the hard way.
I wish I'd walked away sooner from the wrong person, and known what I know now about life with the right person.
6. Looking for love
Love comes when you stop looking for it, when you're happy in your own skin. It will find you when you least expect it.
7. Worrying about your looks
My husband has never seen me yet he's seen me from the inside out. What counts is what's inside, who you truly are. When you've connected to that, you shine.
8. Doing things you don't want to do
I've always been quite good at this one - I think it's my stubborn streak! Or the fact that I'm happiest on my own, doing my own thing.
There is no rule that says you must do something you don't want to do. You get to choose and make those decisions.
9. Being someone you're not
Life is so much easier when you can just be yourself.
10. Being serious
Chris always says, act silly every day. Try it!
