10 Things We Can Get Rid of Today That Will Radically Improve Our Lives
1. Television.
Watching television is delightful and entertaining, but what would we do - what could we do - if we no longer had it?
2. Facebook.
Facebook is a relic of the social media world and doesn't provide the value it once did. Now it's a platform for advertisers that use our personal interests against us. Next time you log out of your account, as yourself: Do I feel better now than when I first logged in?
3. Alcohol.
In a way, like television, alcohol is fun and distracting until you've had too much of it. And, you typically regret it the next morning. Ultimately, alcohol provides little value outside of serving as a social lubricant.
4. Desk chair.
All of the sitting we do is weakening our hips, deadening our ability to walk and run correctly, causing back pain, and slowly killing us. Ditch your chair and get a stand-up desk.
5. Smartphone.
This is a tough one. I'm addicted to my phone as much as anyone. But, we managed to survive for a pretty long time without them, and ultimately what is our addition to staring out our phones doing for us that makes our lives that much better?
6. Consuming mainstream news media.
Mainstream news is 100% negative, provides no value, and you have zero control over the events they cherry-pick to share with you.
7. Anyone who brings you down.
Constructive criticism is fantastic, but anyone who puts you down and provides nothing positive in your relationship has no place in your life. Ditch them as quickly as possible.
8. Hope that someone will come to save you.
It's a tough world out there and most people are looking out for themselves. It's beautiful to find a community that supports us, and where we can be supportive. That said, if we expect the government to bail us out, the bank loan to be approved, or anything else outside of our control to save you, then we are bound for disappointment.
9. Sugar.
In small doses, sugar is fine. In fact, our brains and muscles need it. But, the modern western diet provides far, far too much of it, and the result is brain fog, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and potentially cancer. Aim for 50 grams or less per day (less is better).
10. Overscheduling ourselves.
How productive do we really need to be? If someone put a gun to our heads and forced us to only do three things today, could we do it?
