10 thoughts on being able to watch musicians perform in their home studios on YouTube

    1. Many people are astonishingly skilled but have no commercial potential

    2. The pandemic made it possible and normalized watching someone doing something in a room by themselves

    3. The industry of podcasting equipment made it possible

    4. The combination of YouTube and data centers and high speed internet convergence

    5. There is a type of person that can get hyper focused on guitar and literally practice over 60 hours a week for years

The results are highly personalized and staggering

    6. I need more guitars and amps!

Lots of people show off and display their collections. I just reorganized my office to do something similar. You have to keep up with the Joneses!

    7. I'm glad that some people are able to make a little bit of money and some are actually able to make a living doing very esoteric things, but they're able to find a cool audience

    8. It is not just Amateur musicians: you can see pros in their environment with long-format interviews: it is amazing.

    9. Being able to watch the practice routine to somebody like Robert Fripp or Steve Vai explains why they are so good

They were not born with the skills: it took incredible amounts of practice

    10. It is very inspiring to see!
