10 Ways to Calm Down When You're Feeling Unsettled

Feeling all crazy inside? 10 ways to calm down

    1. Take 3 deep breaths

Close your eyes and take one slow deep breath in, hold it for a second or two, and then slowly let it out. Do this for a total of three deep breaths.

    2. Find ONE thing you love and/or ONE thing you can be grateful for in your space/environment. Note it and say, "thank you and I love you" to it.

There's always something to love and/or be grateful for around you.

    Truly.

It could be the color of the bottle of water you're drinking out of. It could be that you are able to drink water at all, or that there is a way for you get clean water to drink (you have the $, the access, etc). It could be there's a tree outside your window and the way the leaves dance around is just amazing and gorgeous.

Take note and say "thank you and I love you" to it.

    3. Turn on your favorite song and listen

Music is a drug that can immediately shift your mood. Turn some on music on and let it take you on a journey.

    4. Go for a short walk

It's amazing how movement and walking can shift your whole attitude. Even a walk around the block can do it.

    5. Call a friend or someone you love talking to and say hello

Call someone you love or have a close relationship with. Call them just to say hi. And tell 'em you're just calling to check in. It will cheer them up and YOU up in the process.

    6. Look at a video or a picture of a baby animal

It's hard to feel anxious or un-settled when you're marveling at how cute a little furry animal is.

    7. Write down everything you're worried about on a scrap of paper - stream of consciousness style - just to get it out of your head.

Sometimes just writing out what is going on inside your head/heart is a great way to calm things down.

Keep what you wrote and act on them, or better yet, ball it up the piece of paper and throw it out.

    8. Move toward the space/s

Where ever there is a space -- and whatever that means to you -- move toward it. :)

    9. Let go

    Ask yourself:
What do I need to let go of in order to feel better right now?
    What am I holding onto?

    10. Get into the present -- into the what's happening right here & right now

Usually when we are worried or unsettled, it's because we are dwelling in either the past or the future.

    STOP.

Get into the now. Like this very moment.
