10 Ways to Find your Christmas Spirit.

I often get accused of being a Grinch around Christmas. I'm really not. It's not that I hate or dislike Christmas. I just have a hard time getting into the "spirit" of Christmas. I get stuck in the mundane. So here are some things that help me. Hopefully they can help some of you too.

10 Ways to Find your Christmas Spirit.

    1. Decorate your house.

This is an extra chore every year and I dread it. But my wife really enjoys it. And to be honest, once everything is in place, I enjoy it too. I have to remind myself every year that it is worth doing. Because it is.

    2. Christmas music

It is easy to go overboard on this one and end up with the opposite effect. But start sprinkling in an occasional Christmas favorite into your play list and see if it doesn't bring a little smile.

    3. Bake holiday treats

Fun, and practical, and you get treats!

    4. Send Christmas cards

How often do we find personal cards and letters in the mail anymore. Taking the time to pick out a card, jot down a little note, and mail it all adds to the enjoyment of the person receiving it. It is a personal touch in what can be a cold and impersonal time of year.

    5. Acts of Kindness

It was kindness that cured the Grinch. It can cure you too.

    6. Attend a Holiday Gathering

Enjoying time spent with family and friends is definitely in the Spirit of Christmas. If you're feeling really brave, host a gathering.

    7. Create something

Do little crafts or projects for the holidays. They don't have to be much or be very good. You can even throw them away if you wish. But take the time and use your hands to create.

    8. Attend community festivities.

Like friends and family, but now include your neighbors and the community. Caroling, tree lighting, Wassail, are just some examples.

    9. Remember Traditions

What is something you do that reminds you of the goodness of mankind? Maybe you did it as a kid? Maybe it was something you started when your kids were little. A special meal. Watching the same movie every year. Attending church. Whatever it is, make it a priority. Because it is.

    10. Smile and say Merry Christmas to a stranger.

It might be exactly what they need to hear.
