10 Ways to Find Your Next Job

    1. Let Your Network Know You are Available.

Family, Friends, Business associates, etc. Basically, everyone in your rolodex and email contact list. It is a well-known idiom that most jobs are never posted.

    2. Peruse All the Usual Job Boards

Don't forget the local grocery store bulletin board. Sometimes old school still rules.

    3. Become your Own Boss

Can't find a job? Create one. (A great reason to have a side hustle while working a primary job).

    4. Break Out the Crystal Ball

If you can foretell what industry is growing the fastest and what company in that industry is best positioned then that should be the first place you look.

    5. Just because a company isn't advertising, doesn't mean they aren't hiring.

Email inquiries, cold calls, even in person office visits are a low payoff but necessary parts of the process.

    6. Ask for Your Old Job Back

This is a tough one for most people. But going to a prior employer, even the one that just "let you go" in some instances, can result in surprising answers.

    7. Make Lists

Use the NotePD model. Send each decision maker a list of ideas to move the company forward. Make yourself lists to help you focus your search.

    8. AI Can Assist

By uploading your CV into an AI platform, adding any requirements you have, (location, salary, etc) and then ask it about your options. While it likely won't have current job openings, it may help you find new sectors to pursue or identify holes or omissions that need to be shored up.

    9. Your Country Needs You

My experience here is limited to the U.S., But I'm assuming most other developed countries are similar. In my more than 30 yrs of experience, I have never seen a time when the Govt. was not hiring. It may not be exactly in the field you think you're interested in or qualified for. it may be work adjacent or completely unrelated to other positions you have had. And they are always published and publicly available.

    10. Pack Your Bags

If are able and willing to relocate, your prospects will always improve exponentially.

    11. BONUS: Do You Really Need a Job?

Maybe jump into the freelance or gig economy full-time. Or can investments (real estate, dividends, business partnerships, etc.) generate enough income? If you decide you do need a regular paycheck, what about part-time plus another one, two, or ten income streams?
