12 ways to reduce your home heating bill
1. Shop around to make sure you are getting the best deal from your energy supplier
2. Submit your meter readings each month to make sure your bills are based on actual usage rather than estimated usage
3. Get your boiler serviced once per year to ensure it's running efficiently
4. Control your heating times and temperatures using your timer and thermostats
5. Close the curtains at night time to stop heat loss through the windows
6. Dress for the cold weather and invest in cosy slippers and loungewear!
7. Maximise solar gain by opening the curtains during the day and letting the sun in and make sure trees and shrubs aren't blocking the sun
8. Only run fans and vents in the kitchen etc. as necessary as they also suck out the warm air!
9. Schedule an energy audit - many energy providers offer them free of charge
10. If your home isn't well insulated, installing insulation is a great way to reduce heat loss
11. If you have a fireplace close the damper to reduce heat loss and consider installing a wood burning stove instead
