500 is a nice round number!
I've been writing lists here on NotePD for 500 days. Maintaining a streak has definitely helped with consistency. But, tomorrow I'm breaking my streak.
1. First of all, thank you …
To the NotePD team for creating this amazing website and the space to develop and share ideas. And to everyone who has commented and liked posts over the past year and a bit, and provided accountability. Plus, sharing great lists that have inspired me.
2. What I’ve learned
A streak does motivate me. Even on days when I had a migraine, I still published a list. Private lists helped on days when my lists were less than sparkling. I did pause for a while, too, when I was laid low by a flu bug.
Even on days when you don't think you have a great idea, list writing throws out some gems.
I've gone down all sorts of rabbit holes. I've been inspired by Challenges. I've logged photos and created more journal type posts. I've now got a back catalogue of 500 different ideas.
3. Anything is possible
Writing something daily here has proved that it's possible to be consistent. It's just about creating the right conditions, factoring something into your day, building a routine, and not giving up even when you're flagging.
4. Why make lists
Start with the master himself, @JamesAltucher - but the reasons I make lists are varied. Some lists are shopping lists, others are to remember, to share a theme, potential inspiration to expand on, ideas for articles. I'm convinced that list making has immense value.
5. What now?
Writing daily lists has definitely become a habit. I may create them in different formats some days. I especially like lists that build over time and ones I can add new items to as they occur to me.
But, in other news, Chris and I are busy with our new smallholding which will be a theme of many future lists. We're almost at the point of purchasing our first hens. I'm befriending Phil the Farmer's sheep who now take food from my hand. We're gathering in a harvest of plums, apples and blackberries, and looking forward to the whole lambing process. But, most of all, I'm anticipating that first laid egg from our hens.
