AI Apps - Interesting and Not Interested

When I'm scrolling through X's "For You" I see a bunch of folks posting these 'great' AI apps. As someone who is very curious, but very suspicious, there are some I've used, and others I've avoiding (at least for now because either there's a cost up front, I don't have a practical use for them at this point, or I don't trust them).

    1. ChatGPT - Use a lot

Where I started... gives me what I need, like translating repair codes on the son's car and giving a price range for repairs. The shop's quote was in the lower third.

    2. Grok - Use some

Mostly to summarize long posts I don't want to read in full.

    3. Deepseek - Don't Use

Haven't tried, and don't know if I trust it...

    4. Suno - Use

Music / lyrics creation. Free version, for amusement (parodies of friends).

    5. Claude - Use some

Had the paid version, scaled back as part of culling my subscription plans across the board. It's OK.

    6. MidJourney - Use a lot

Mostly to create patterns for my AI wrapping paper site.

    7. Perplexity - Tried

It's OK, not special. And the phone app is unresponsive for some reason.

    8. CoPilot - Haven't tried

Probably should, but I don't like the idea of submitting more to MS.

    9. Text to Video - Tried A Bit

Intrigued. As a geography major in college who can't draw a straight line with a ruler, the visual type apps interest me. But I don't always have the time or patience to learn them and get frustrated with the results. At least in these cases, it comes down to writing strong prompts. And I'm OK at writing.

    10. Resume Builders - don't need

I'm approaching retirement age, with over 20 years at my current job. My demographic would rule me out of consideration for just about any position, even in the non-profit sector. If I had to leave my job, I'd go into business for myself.

There's a lot out there, and like the internet when it first started getting popular, there will be a lot of turbulence with AI apps coming and going, and some dominating. But, as I see it, the AI will allow common folks to create their own apps easily, disrupting this process (unless gubmits get control) and keeping things fresh.
