Bad idea of the day: The Podcast Family Tree

1. Basic idea: How am I "related" to other people via podcasts
if a "relation" is X has been on the podcast of Y then X is the "Child" of Y. If both A and B have been on the podcast of C then A and B are podcast brothers, etc.
2. Scrape all the data from some platform like spotify.
Get the data for all podcasts over the past ten years. Build the links. Like Jocko has been on Joe Rogan and my podcast. So he would link to both Rogan and me. And anyone who has been on Jocko's podcast would be like a "grand-link" to me.
3. In the "tree" make the links darker the more recently they've been on a podcast.
This way you can see which guests (and podcasts) have been relevant over time.
4. Click on the link between two people to watch or listen to the podcast.
5. If you are a "verified" podcaster, then click on a person on the "podcast family tree" to see how they are "related" to you.
If someone has been on Lewis Howes podcast and Brian Keating's podcast (as an example) but not mine, then this can give me ideas of how to get them on my podcast.
6. When you click on a person
You can:
- see a timeline of news events and podcast events. So if I click on Eric Schmidt I might see which books he wrote and when they came out and when he was on which podcast. So I would see clusters of podcasts around his book releases.
I might also see news releases about upcoming books or other events he is involved in which might give me an excuse to reach out to him again to get him on my podcast again.
7. When you roll over a link between a guest and a podcast
You can see the description of the podcast.
So, for instance, if I search "China" on the family tree I can probably see
A) all the guests that have spoken about China
B) all the guests that might have news or books related to China
C) all the podcasts about China
Benefit is that if I want to talk about events in China this is an easy way to see:
- reference points (the books mentioned)
- guests who might be perfect
- which guests are "gettable" for me based on what other podcasts they've been on.
8. Can also have a view which clusters podcasts around podcast networks they belong to
9. Can also have a view which clusters podcasts that have the biggest overlap of guests
Benefit: if I want to listen to one comedy podcast and there's a few that have all the same guests that I like I can pick the podcast I think is best instead of trying to listen to all of them.
10. Can use AI to recommend guests
Depending on how correlated I am in guests to other podcasts and what other guests they might have.
11. Btw, I plugged in the AI here to see if it had any more ideas for the podcast family tree. It was totally offbase. In fact, I think the AI is a Marxist.
Here's one idea it came up with which had nothing to do with the original idea but is funny anyway:
THE AI-GENERATED IDEA
"The Famliy Tree of Bad Ideas":
"How capitalism is ruining our planet In this podcast, we explore how capitalism is ruining our planet. We trace its origins back to its creator, and see how it has spawned a new generation of terrible ideas."
