Core Career Principles
1. Feedback is good
Direct feedback is best; it should, of course, be civil.
2. Emails should be responded to within 24 hours
3. A Change of Scenery Is Good
A job would ideally get me out of the office occasionally.
4. I prefer to work independently
5. Always Take Your Allotted Vacation
6. It's (Often) Better To Ask Forgiveness Than Permission
When you take something upon yourself you empower yourself and learn. Always asking permission can trap you in a subordinate role forever. If you don't have the latitude to make a mistake, it's either not the right opportunity to risk, or your company culture isn't good.
7. Put In Extra Time as Rarely As Possible
Sometimes I'll work a little late, and sometimes I'll put in an hour or two on weekends, but in general, I find these efforts aren't rewarded, prevent rest and recuperation and can set a precedent/expectation that you may regret having to meet in the future.
