I really like Egg Nog, it's a part of my Christmas spirit. Here is a recipe for homemade eggnog that you can make in 10 steps:
1. In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of milk, 1 cup of heavy cream, and ¾ cup of granulated sugar.
2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is hot.
3. In a separate bowl, beat 6 large egg yolks until they are smooth and creamy.
4. Slowly drizzle in about 1 cup of the hot milk mixture into the egg yolks, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from curdling.
5. Pour the egg yolk mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining milk mixture and continue cooking over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon.
6. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in 1 cup of rum, 1 cup of brandy, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
7. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl or pitcher and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours or overnight.
8. Just before serving, beat 2 cups of heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
9. Gently fold the whipped cream into the chilled eggnog mixture.
10. Serve the eggnog in glasses, garnished with a sprinkle of nutmeg or cinnamon. Enjoy!
