Ego's Game: Suffering's Trick. (1 min 50 sec)

    1. If the "soul's purpose" is to experience joy, why do we come to a place of pain and suffering?

The idea that the soul's purpose is to experience joy is not entirely accurate. We are not individual souls, but rather we are all part of the one eternal, infinite, spirit.
The world of pain and suffering that we appear to experience is not real, but rather is a projection of the mind that is based on the belief in separation from God. This belief in separation gives rise to the ego, which is the thought system of fear, guilt, and judgment that governs our experience in the world of form.
We do not actually come to a place of pain and suffering, because there is no "place" apart from the mind. The world we perceive through our five senses is a dream, an illusion that is created by our own thoughts. There is no actual body to experience pain, but rather the experience of pain and suffering is a reflection of the mind's belief in separation.
Our true nature is not a separate soul with a specific purpose, but rather we are the eternal, changeless spirit that is one with God. Our only "purpose" is to remember and accept this truth, and to extend the love and light of God to all.
The path to this remembrance is through forgiveness, which is the recognition that the world of pain and suffering is not real. Our true identity is not the ego or the body, but rather the eternal, infinite spirit that is our shared reality.
