Hierarchy Of Needs
We took an almost direct lightning strike to our house, it knocked out almost everything and fried a few electronics. I was able to get one phase of our electric panel to come up but it damaged our solar, control box for our well, internet access, Directv and our landline (yes we still have one, lousy cell signal at our house).
With electricity we are able to not have food go bad and the well can work except in this instance when the well control box got damaged. It's now fixed.
Being able to flush toilets is important but we couldn't do that for a couple of days. We used buckets we filled from our 2500 gallon tank we have for fire suppression and filled the toilet tank manually. We showered at the firehouse for a few days.
Can't really be productive without the internet. The internet can also provide entertainment.
I love to watch baseball and it's easiest this way. Also having BloombergTV on during market hours is helpful for certain things.
Not having it in the short term is no big deal but the power goes out here frequently and we never know thanks to the solar backup batteries.
I can live without it, my wife wants it.
