Household Necessities
That is the title of a list by @SteveAlvest. My version here is intended as a companion list to his. All of his items I think are important, except for soybeans IMO, so these are in addition to his items.
We've had situations where we've been with out grid power for more than a week or been snowed in for a few days so my list tilts that way. It's also influenced by the pandemic. Before it was declared, we got out in front of a couple of things like getting a few weeks ahead on groceries which came in handy.
1. Plenty of drinking water
2. Costco hamburger patties
Walmart burgers work too. Both are reasonably priced, great source of protein.
I'd also add Quest Bars or equivalent. Usually they are filling and in the case of Quest Bars, they are low carb and high in protein.
3. Generator
We have a dinosaur of a 5kw generator and a 1kw Goal Zero. They come in handy for different things.
4. Robust set of tools
You don't need a hardware store in your garage but I think you need to go beyond a hammer and two screwdrivers.
5. Gasoline
6. Batteries
AA or AAA or any other size for stuff in your house.
7. Flashlights
I would say to have several.
8. Fire extinguishers and smoke detectors
I am a firefighter after all LOL.
9. Work gloves
I'd suggest several different types, handy for different types of work.
10. Basic medical equipment
This can be as simple as a couple of splints and bandages or as complicated as a full EMT bag. For fire department reasons, I have a full EMT bag with oxygen and an AED in the fire department vehicle that is parked at my house.
