How to declutter as a lifestyle
how to declutter when you were raised in scarcity
1. Don’t buy anything unless you really need it.
2. If you don’t use something for a year, get rid of it
3. Buy used
4. Make yourself aware of your triggers for buying things
5. Have a “no-buy” week once a month
6. If you are not using something and someone gives it to you, give it back to them
7. Have no more than 4 books on your nightstand at any given time. Replace the books as they age out (one year old) with new ones so your collection is always fresh and you can read from a variety of perspectives at any given time.
If someone gives me a book I already have, then I return that book and keep the new one. It's important to keep your library constantly refreshed with new ideas because otherwise they will just sit there collecting dust. And if they are collecting dust that means you aren't reading them which means you aren't growing which means...you know where this is going!
Also, try to keep all books under 10 years old so they are still relevant (if they are older than that then use them as reference material).
I've written about the idea of keeping an inventory list but replacing the items with equivalent used versions instead of throwing away when you decide to declutter. This keeps money in circulation instead of just getting rid of everything and spending more money when you want those things again later on (which often never happens).
Why do this? Because every time we buy something we also pay interest to whatever gave us the money so we can buy their products/services/etc . So if we are always buying new stuff we are paying interest every single time and losing our lives in return for trinkets that quickly lose value anyway because everyone else is doing this too!
Recorded Books is another great service for this since there are very few "new" books available compared to Amazon but there are millions of used ones available through Recorded Books (and Audible). So check them out! _
