We all need to step away from work (or life) once in a while, and here are some things that I've tried for me that help to make a difference in my life and turn on a reset button to finding more balance.
1. Take a walk and enjoy the scenic view without just going out for the sake of getting my 10K steps.
2. Draw a picture. Enjoy the drawing process without trying to always produce a "masterpiece".
3. Cook a meal. Enjoy heating up leftovers without producing an "Instagram worthy" dish of art.
4. Pet my cat (even in the middle of a hectic day. Her purring seems to calm me in some way). Enjoy the softness of her fur and a warm cuddle, without thinking of all the things I could be doing instead.
5. Allow myself to do one thing at a time. Not constantly trying to multitask. It's ok if not everything has an end result.
6. Play a game with with my kids. Even if there is no educational rhyme or reason for it. Even if it's just for a good laugh.
7. Write in my journal. Enjoy the process of this special quiet alone moment, without thinking of how it could be turned into a blog post.
8. Take some reflection/meditation time. It doesn't have to be completely planned at the perfect place in the perfect position with the perfect guided meditation. I can just allow myself to sit alone with my own thoughts sometimes.
9. Do something creative, just for ME, without expecting a "video worthy" project to share on line.
10. Write a "stop doing" list and post it where you can be reminded of it often. This time there is no need to check off the boxes, just allow it to be.
