How to prepare for a job interview

    1. Google the interviewer

If you know the name of the interviewer, do some research. Sometimes you can find video, or articles in the press which gives you unique background information about the company.

    2. Research the company

This is a fundamental. But also think laterally. In the UK, you can search on Companies House and find some financial information and details of ownership. Check the website and social media.

    3. Job specification

Prepare examples of how you meet the job specification. What experience do you have that's relevant? How does your experience match the requirements.

    4. Ask

If you get an opportunity, ask about the format of the interview. Is there anything specific that the interviewer would like you to cover?

    5. Questions

Prepare questions to ask at the end of the interview. Google interview questions and see what is a fit and relevant for you to ask. Always have questions. Ask about the culture and values of the organisation to see whether you're a fit.

    6. Review your CV

Think back on roles that you've fulfilled and what you achieved in those roles. Be prepared to talk about your successes, your wins, and if appropriate, your management style.

    7. Strengths and weaknesses

A favourite of interviewers. What are your strengths/weaknesses? Ask people who know you what they think are your strengths. It might give you more interesting answers.

    8. Make notes

Take notes and use your notes in the interview.

    9. Demonstrate preparedness

Mention something unusual or even quirky that you discovered while doing your research. Show your interest.

    10. Send a thank you email

If you don't know where to start Google interview thank you emails. Then make the template your own.
