Is there a shift happening on Twitter?

    1. Various incarnations

I was first on Twitter around 2008. I had a couple of accounts for quite a while - one work, one personal - which I grew to decent numbers. When I changed jobs and moved to a new location, I scrapped both accounts as they no longer seemed relevant. Since then I've started over a few times. Most recently, I've deleted accounts because my timeline became full of content I didn't want to see. I tried to focus on writing (Ship 30 for 30), Obsidian but my timeline was still infiltrated. I tried again a few months ago - partly to keep up to date with Twos news and PKM, and partly just to see if I could give it another go. In the past fortnight I decided to try Twitter Blue and now have a blue tick. I really wanted the ability to write longer notes.

    2. Sell sell sell

Although I've tried to focus and curate my timeline, invariably it gets out of hand. I've noticed how much selling goes on. 'I make $10,000 a month. I can show you how' - and variations on the theme. I do like 'nice' content. Pretty stuff, thought provoking or amusing stuff. The sell sell sell brigade started to get old.

    3. Stories

I started wondering how I could share stories. Instead of 'how to' tweets, what if we told stories and let readers draw their own conclusions. Or what if we just learn from other people's experiences. As I began to think about this approach, a handful of others tweeted about their hopes for a different type of Twitter. Less selling, more be who you are content.

    4. Where are we heading with Twitter?

Perhaps sell sell sell has had its day. Maybe we are moving towards a new era. One that reflects a simpler more gentle approach. I can only dream.
