Any little bit of encouragement to stay focused is helpful. If you're yarn starts to smell sweaty or funky, it can be discouraging.
3. Take breaks.
Set a pomodoro timer and take a break every 25 minutes -
4. Have a fall back project
Always have something on the back burner that can spice up the knitting. Then come back when you feel motivated again.
5. Take your knitting to others
Go a knitting gathering or knit with a KAL group. Some groups have online communities to post your progress. Lean into the feedback.
