Memories of 2025
Some thoughts about the year ending this week. Will do the 2026 plans / wishes, probably.
1. Our Son Becomes An Adult
Turned 18 last April, graduated high school in June, started college in September. He still lives at home, but he's adjusting pretty well to the change.
2. Football Officiating
A good season for the crew. Got a first round playoff game, plus a "how did we get this" game in central NJ (out of our association's area) which meant another $125 game check. And had our usual level of fun and humor.
3. Golf
Did get out a few times with my son, my brother, and our "brother from another brother" which we hadn't done much in 2024. Played rough, but that didn't matter.
4. Nephew's Wedding
Bought a house with his wife, sold his condo, and had a wonderful wedding last month. Besides the festivities themselves, it was held at a ski resort. Don't ski, but sitting at 7am in the restaurant with a hot coffee and some reading reminded me of the importance of occasional change of venue for getting out of ruts.
5. Getting Goal(s) Done
I did finish my book, sold four on Amazon. Haven't pushed it at all. Don't know that I want to, just getting it done was good enough.
6. Getting Old - Slap Into Reality
I turn 65 next month. Applied for and received my Medicare card. Can't avoid it now...
7. Getting Old - Physical
Wrenched my back last March. Worked through it, pretty much better now, but it takes longer to heal. Shoulders still need repaired, but the pain is still less than the pain / rehab if I get them done.
8. Wife's Physical Issues
She's been dealing with a persistent headache (two years +) that they can't figure out so they're doing botox and changing meds. That and having her gall bladder removed and minor surgery on her eyelids have made her year tough.
9. Work - Same Old Same Old
Getting through things, which is less and less satisfying, but I also feel I'm on the glide plane on the way out. Not soon, but not too far off.
10. AI
Been using it to help streamline things, including reading e-mails and helping prepare the framework for a possible side gig I'm thinking about rolling out.
