1. Turning
Chris was woodturning today at the National Coal Mining Museum in Yorkshire.

2. Deputy Stick
He turned a miniature Deputy Stick. Normally a yard in length, the stick was used to demonstrate authority. There was a space in the top for a lantern to sit. If a miner was slacking, he would get a poke in the ribs!

3. Memorial Garden
I liked the glass discs commemorating former miners.

6. Ponies
Bamber and I went to see three pit ponies. Not really the real thing but there to illustrate the story of the real pit ponies. Two were called Eric and Ernie!
7. Snooze in the sunshine
We were located near the beach. A big sand pit. A nod to the seaside holidays much favoured by miners. The kids today loved it!
Bamber snoozed and lay among the daisies.
