Places to live for a very short time.
This is inspired by something @RayInNJ mentioned regarding places to revisit. I don't want to leave where we are but it would be neat and interesting to go back to a some places we've visited and stay for a few months to really immerse and better understand the area.
1. Malibu
We'd need to be able to get everything delivered. Hopefully there would be hiking nearby. I don't know Malibu very well but time spent looking out over the water from one of these houses would be peaceful.
2. Vernazza, Italy
The picture is not great but it is the view from the little balcony where we stayed. It is a tiny little village with plenty of hiking nearby.
3. Venice
Seems like a pretty good place to immerse. This is tricky though because it tends to flood in the winter and get very hot in the summer.
4. Brooklyn
I don't know Brooklyn well but some of the architecture is stunning and there are quite a few neighborhoods where I think really immersing would be possible.
5. Moab, UT
We've spent enough time over multiple trips that maybe we've already done this. The number of things to do near Moab is endless. Kanab, UT and Page, AZ are similar for having tons to do. Of the three, Kanab seems to have more of a community than others but we love all three.
6. Near any of several National Parks
The context here would be on an engine crew for a summer. I can qualify physically but I might be past the age limit. This truck is from Yosemite National Park.
7. Taos, NM
Another one where we've almost done this. There's a ton of hiking, scenery is stunning and you can find great places to eat but traffic is becoming a bigger issue though and there are some crime issues too.
8. Molokai
We visited in 2007. It was a tough place to visit due to just a couple of restaurants (one of which was a Subway) and just a couple of grocery stores. There's a little more there now but not a lot. It is stunning and would be interesting to spend some real time there beyond a week.
9. Ouray, CO
From the picture it looks like it is an isolated town but it is only 36 minutes from Montrose which has just about everything someone might need.
10. Deep Cove in Vancouver, BC
It is a small village very close to downtown Vancouver but the scenery is stunning and there is some great hiking nearby.
