Responding to a personal attack?
Strong list from @sheeraz. This is a metaphor, when someone pushes you, they are braced for you to push back to knock them off their feet and it becomes harder to do. If they are braced to not be pushed back, then they are not braced to be pulled forward to be knocked off their feet. Pulling forward to me is figuring a way to agree with them in such a way that they are caught off gaurd and quickly realize their behavior. Have had good luck with handling tough situations this way. Slightly bigger picture, "yeah, you're probably right" should end it even if you don't think they're right.
