Similarities Between "Holes" and "Cryptonomicon"
My son read "Holes" by Louis Sachar as a Grade 5 Novel Study. I caught the gist of the story through his reading comprehension exercises, overhearing his mom working with him on reading it, reading with him myself, and finally watching the movie when it was done.
I'm reading "Cryptonomicon" by Neal Stephenson - and I'm finally nearly finished.
1. A Search For Hidden Treasure
2. Families That Are Intertwined Through Different Historical Periods
3. Scary Wildlife
Especially Lizards
4. Friendships Made In Spite of Abrasive Personalities
5. Cursed Characters
Holes is more explicit in expressing occurrences through a supernatural curse, but Goto Dengo goes through so much bad luck, you have to wonder if he was born under a bad sign. On the other hand, given the things he survives, maybe he leads a charmed life.
