Tell about your pets: Our Cat 'Asia'

    1. We didn't pick the name

We fostered her when the original owner's kids were allergic. They thought moving to a bigger house would solve their problems, and we figured we would end up with a new permanent pet. We were right

    2. She is a Calico

Calicos have a distinct colouration, and very strange personalities (see redirected aggression below). Due to some weird genetics, almost every Calico you see is a female (as is Asia).

    3. Redirected Aggression

We hadn't had her long when she saw another cat in our backyard and started screeching and yowling at it. It was 6AM on a Monday and I wasn't having it, so I thought I'd spray her with water to discourage the behaviour. She wound up attacking us and even caught my youngest and scratched his legs. We had almost 48 hours of being hostage in our own house and she calmed down. She hasn't done it since and is actually very sweet. Apparently when they can't take out their aggression on its original target (the other cat invading her territory) it can go... elsewhere. I'm always a little wary of what I think of as the 'Mr. Hyde' side of her personality.

    4. She Is the most vocal cat I have ever seen

I've had cats in my life and/or home for most of my life. I've never seen one meow this much. We believe she thinks she's talking to us.

    5. We could get her to take walks with us

No more than around a block or so, but she would follow us, and complain if we went too fast or too far.

    6. She is a great mouser

She cleared out our entire street of mice. On one day, I must have buried 3-4 mice she left on the front porch.
