Ten Good Things From "New" Couches

As described the other day, we got couches that were my folks, as my sister who lives in their place will be moving and not taking the furniture.

    1. The actual couches

Our departing couch was older and beat up. The back cushions sucked (my opinion) and the dog used one to support watching out the living room window. The "new" couches are better, and lightly used.

    2. Coordinating family members quickly to get something done.

My sister to be available (and awake) to open the door. My brother to help transport one in his truck. My son to help with the muscle. And my wife to get things moved around and cleaned up (dog hair accumulates quickly under couches) so we could the new furniture in place.

    3. Time with my son

Three hours of driving, round trip. Probably 1.5 hours of talking, the balance of him napping on the way home. Don't get a lot of this lately.

    4. Breakfast Stop

McDonalds on the way down. Hate the kiosks, but since I have it so rarely any more it was good.

    5. Time with my sibs

Again, not a lot of this these days. Sister is 90 minutes away, brother is 90 minutes past her. We talk regularly, but in person is much better.

    6. Salvage Mission

Sis set aside a bunch of Dad's Masonic stuff (he was 33rd degree). While there's probably not much to with the personalized stuff - clothes, certificates and awards - there are a bunch of old books. A guy from church is a Mason, so I know he'll find a good home for them.

    7. Change of Pace

Would normally do desk work in the morning, church at 11am, afternoon resting. We were out the door at 9:30am back by about 2:30pm and another 45 minutes setting things in place. Still had time to get ready for work and do "my stuff" before bed time. Was good to get out of the redundancy cycle!

    8. Driving

Do like a good drive once in a while. Mostly highway, and most of the jerks that are usually on the road were probably sleeping in. Brother reported that someone on their phone were half way in his lane and he barely missed an accident.

    9. Brother met the dog

Winston is a very protective male in the house (wonderful with dogs and people away from the house). After things were set up, we brought him out (with a muzzle on) to meet my brother. Winston was pretty good, growled a little bit, but let my brother pet him.

    10. Got rid of some clutter

Not 100% of what I'd like in the living room, but got 50%. A decent win.
