Ten Things From Yesterday
Big day for the son yesterday... mostly very good, some a bit of concern.
1. Got the son out of his POS Car
Took a beating on it as a trade-in, but it was a disaster waiting to happen.
2. Got the son into a new used car
Subaru Outback Wilderness, 2022. His 'dream' car... because he wants to do a lot of camping.
3. Got the son his own loan
Yeah, we co-signed, but that was to save about 4 points on the interest rate. So, he now has his own credit card and a car loan to help grow his credit rating.
4. Confirmation
The place we got the son's first car used to be a reputable place, but was bought out before we got there according to our sales guy yesterday. The new owner is a shady character.
5. Doing Nothing Is Exhausting
After getting home from the car purchase, I had zero energy to accomplish anything. Ordered groceries online for delivery today, but only because my order was in already and just had to set the delivery time.
6. Relief
Didn't have to worry if I'd have to drive to his work at 10pm to help with car problems.
7. Concern
He'll be making the payments... so we'll be working on his budget and keeping a clean checkbook. The wife had been deducting money from his account to saving every week to repay "The Bank of Dad" for the car payment and insurance.
8. Write-Off
He owes us quite a bit on the old car for major repairs we covered. I'm writing it off in my mind because we "let" him get the original POS car. If we had just insisted on him driving the wife's old Forrester (after putting some money into it), never would have had this issue. The price of mental health, lol!
9. Proud
Even with all that, the son proved that he was good at thinking things through, doing his research, and making good arguments to get his new car. If he'd just apply that to the outside world, he'll be fine.
10. Bunny incident
Normally, I would have been in bed by 9:30, but wanted to wait til the son got home to ask how the car was doing. The wife lets the dog in from outside, and says 'he's got something in his mouth' and he was moving around like he had something.
At first glance, he had a leaf. Grabbed his collar, and he growled at me. Saw a little body and legs. After a couple 'drop it' commands in an increasing 'alpha' voice, he dropped it. There were three newborn rabbits, and a bundle of fur. Two looked dead, the other moved. He had found a nest.
We looked up what to do, which was to call animal rescue. Our town's would not be open until Monday. So we put them back outside out of the reach of the dog's line, and said a little prayer that maybe the mom would find them.
