The Biggest Lie That Keeps Us Suffering. (168 sec)

Preview

    1. And why we keep believing it.

Let me cut straight to the point, Mighty Companions: We’re never upset for the reason we think. We’re upset because we’ve bought into an illusion — a story our mind keeps spinning. We're upset because we're seeing something that isn't even there. Now, before you argue or roll your eyes, hang with me for a second.
What we're seeing — what we're obsessing over — isn't real. It’s an image, a mental projection. The body. The situation. The drama. All just props in this grand illusion. What’s really got us in knots is that we’re caught up in the movie. We’re fully invested in our roles, our storylines, our fantasies. And that’s why we're upset.
Now, here’s where it gets real. You might not want to hear this, but it’s true. The reason we're upset isn't about the situation or the person. It's because someone — some thing — isn’t doing or saying exactly what we want. We’ve handed over our peace to this phantom control.
Let me throw an example at you. John smokes. You hate that John smokes. You tell yourself, “If John would just stop smoking, I’d finally be happy.” So let’s say John stops. Does your happiness magically show up? Spoiler: No. You're still restless. Now, John’s annoyed because he gave up something he actually liked, and you're still pissed off because surprise — he’s not behaving exactly how you'd like in some other way now.
So, what happened? You thought controlling John would make you happy. But it didn't. Now there are two unhappy people instead of one.
Let’s flip it. John keeps smoking. He's happy puffing away, and you're...what? Annoyed because he's not listening to your expectations? Or, imagine this: You let go. You get out of John’s business. He's happy smoking, and you’re content with just letting him be. Now, there are two happy people when before there were none.
The only reason we’re upset is because the world isn’t bending to our will. That’s the lie we keep telling ourselves. We think if we can just manipulate the situation enough, we’ll finally be happy. That’s the ego’s game. It’s a massive, fat, ugly lie designed to keep us trapped in suffering.
So, what's the way out? What’s the antidote to this madness?
    Forgiveness.
No, not the kind of forgiveness that’s all rainbows and martyrdom. We're talking about true forgiveness — the kind that sees the innocence in everyone, the kind that realizes that nothing real has actually happened. We're not just “letting it slide”; we’re seeing through the illusion altogether.
It’s not that we’re passive. No, we’re far from passive. We’re active, but in a different way. We stop feeding the stories. We stop running the data —what he said, what she did, how they let us down, what should have happened. That’s all just ego data.
When we forgive, truly forgive, we step outside of the story. We step out of the lie. We stop insisting that the world needs to change for us to be at peace. We let go of needing anyone, anything, to be different than it is.
    And that’s real freedom.
So that’s love's thought for you. That's our time. If you're ready to stop suffering, you know what to do. Let go. See through the illusion. And maybe, just maybe, we’ll stop buying into that big old lie.
    Peace.
