The supplements I take

I've experimented with a great many supplements in the past. The problem with supplements is that most of them take several weeks of using them for me to notice any effects, if I ever notice any effects. Here are the ones I've found work for me.

    1. Zinc

I got sick a lot as a kid. My immune system seems weaker than normal. But when I'm regularly taking zinc supplements, I rarely get sick.

    2. Vitamin D

I try to get sun exposure for natural vitamin D, but my job requires working indoors on a computer for most of my days. The vitamin D supplements are essential for making up for lost sun-time.

    3. Multivitamin

I know, multivitamins aren't as effective as they're marketed to be. That's why I'm very careful with what brand I choose. Labdoor is an independent supplement testing company, and extremely useful for choosing a good brand.

    4. Fish oil

I hear krill oil is the best kind. I haven't been taking it regularly because it tends to get expensive, and the pills can be huge and tedious to swallow.

    5. Caffeine

Is coffee a supplement? Sure, why not? It's definitely a short-term performance enhancer.

    6. Probiotics

I take any chance I get to take some probiotics. I enjoy yogurt, kombucha, live beers, kimchi, and other fermented foods and drinks.

    7. Resveratrol

Okay, I don't really try to take resveratrol. But I do enjoy dry red wines, and resveratrol is a good excuse to enjoy some wine.

    8. EGCG

Just like with resveratrol, I don't specifically try to get EGCG, but I do enjoy strong green teas.

    9. Antihistamine

Not really a supplement, and more of a medication, but I take Claritin with my supplements. It takes care of my seasonal allergy problems and doesn't make me drowsy.

    10. PAGG

I'm a huge fan of Tim Ferriss and have taken the PAGG stack of four supplements that he discusses in The Four Hour Body many times. I'm still not convinced that it works, but I'm also not convinced that it doesn't work. There's a good summary of PAGG here.
