The Weekly Roundup
1. Busy Saturday
On the way into town last weekend to run some errands I spotted a hawk sitting on top of a fence post in a field. An exciting purchase of the day was a new kettle! A nice bright teal blue. We had brunch at one of our favourite cafés and then went to stock up for Chris' midweek demo. We retraced our steps and went to a favourite rural DIY place to get a hi-vis jacket for Chris' walks with Bamber. Let's just say you can see him from a distance now!
2. Harvest Supper
Last weekend, in the village, it was the Harvest Supper. (Mostly) meat and potato pie, mash and veg. Really good. Plus Pavlova for my choice of dessert. I won a prize in the raffle - shortbread biscuits. After the meal, there was entertainment - some singers from a local am dram society.
3. Mrs 'Arris Goes to Paris
The next film showing in the village cinema (really the village hall) is the most recent version of Mrs Harris Goes to Paris. I read and re-read the book by Paul Gallico many moons ago, and have watched the 1997 film, starring Angela Lansbury more than once. I thought Chris needed to listen to the original so that he had a benchmark against which he could measure the new film. Coincidentally, Angela Lansbury died a couple of days later.
4. Cows
On Monday I was at the Farmers' Market in Bakewell. The first time I've managed to go there on the right day. I saw a lot of sheep and a few cows. I also chatted to a blind man and his wife. The man, in his 70s, had lost his sight 4 years ago and was still struggling. We had a long conversation and I told them about Chris' similar experience with sight loss. I think it helped a little.
5. Woodturning Demo
On Wednesday we drove to Nottingham as Chris had a woodturning demo. He turned a beautiful piece of Limba Korina which shimmers when you turn it around.
6. Toby
I bumped into Toby, an 8 month old Labrador in town. I'd seen him before and he was just as enthusiastic this time. A lovely dog.
7. Twos
I've really got Twos properly set up now and it's paying dividends. I'm going to write a post about my methodology and why Lists are the key to everything. For me, at least.
8. Utilities
Our gas and electric bill has tripled! Grrrr! I think it's safe to say, enough is enough!
9. New Coat
As well as getting my hair cut today, I'm collecting a bright red, all weather coat from Joules. A bargain in the sale!
