Uses for ChatGPT
I played around with ChatGPT for the first time this morning and... WOW. This will revolutionize the way I work. If they start charging for this, I will gladly pay for the service (as I do with other AI services like StableDiffusion and Sudowrite). I'm sure there are thousands of uses for ChatGPT, but here are a few I can think of off the bat.

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 1 cup cooked and mashed beets
- 1 cup diced cooked beef
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon minced dill
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Using a pastry cutter or your hands, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the cold water until the dough comes together into a ball. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
- In a separate mixing bowl, combine the mashed beets, cooked beef, onion, sour cream, egg, dill, and black pepper. Stir to combine.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut the dough into rounds using a biscuit cutter or the rim of a drinking glass. Place a spoonful of the beef and beet filling in the center of each round of dough. Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape, and press the edges together to seal.
- Place the pirozhki on a greased baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the filling is hot and bubbly. Serve the pirozhki hot, with sour cream for dipping, if desired. Enjoy!
- Investing in a diverse range of stocks or mutual funds to build a long-term portfolio
- Putting the money into a high-yield savings account or certificate of deposit to earn interest
- Purchasing real estate, such as rental property or a vacation home, as a long-term investment
- Investing in a small business, either as an owner or a shareholder
- Using the money to start or contribute to a retirement account, such as a 401(k) or IRA
1. Generate generic code
I asked it for Javascript code for processing input to avoid XSS hacks. It gave me a Javascript function I can use:
"There are a few different ways to filter out potentially dangerous input in JavaScript in order to avoid cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks. One common technique is to use regular expressions to match and remove any potentially malicious code from user-submitted input. For example, the following code uses a regular expression to remove any characters that are commonly used in XSS attacks:
function sanitizeInput(input) {
return input.replace(/[^\w\s]/gi, '');
}
This code will remove any special characters from the input string, which can help to prevent XSS attacks by blocking the use of JavaScript code injection. Another approach is to use built-in functions in JavaScript to encode potentially dangerous characters, such as using the encodeURIComponent function to encode URLs. You can also use a library like DOMPurify to automatically sanitize user-submitted input in your JavaScript code."
2. Popular things?
I asked it about what popular metaverses are, but it couldn't say because it told me it is trained on older data, so it can't advice about recent trends.
3. Information on different countries
It could inform me about traditional cuisines and customs of different countries.
4. Create fusion recipes
I asked it about the cuisines of different countries, then I asked it to create fusion recipes for me. It gave me complete recipes of some fusion dishes including ingredients and directions. Here is one of the recipes it generated for me:
"Argentinian-Russian Fusion Beef and Beet Pirozhki
Ingredients:
Instructions:
This fusion dish combines the use of pirozhki, a popular Russian snack, with the flavors of beets and beef, which are commonly used in Argentinian cuisine. The addition of sour cream and dill gives the pirozhki a unique twist that combines the flavors of both cuisines."
5. Substitutions
One of the fusion recipes it gave me called for octopus. I won't eat octopus (they're too smart to eat: see My Octopus Teacher on Netflix), so I asked it for good substitutions that I might find in a typical supermarket in the United States. It suggested "shrimp, crab, lobster, or firm white fish such as cod or halibut."
6. Writing book descriptions
Need a sales pitch for your book? Ask ChatGPT to write a book description for your book. Here is a description it came up with for a book I wrote many years ago (I just told ChatGPT the title of my book and what it was about):

7. Tweaking book descriptions
I asked ChatGPT, "Can you make that book description less salesy and more aspirational?"
It replied, "Sure, here is a revised book description that focuses on the aspirational aspects of the book:

8. Coming up with stories
I went to a random "thing" generator, generated three random things, and asked ChatGPT, "Can you write a short story incorporating shampoo, a computer, and a picture frame?"
The resulting short story:
"Once upon a time, in a small apartment, lived a woman named Sarah. She was a neat and organized person, and she took great pride in keeping her home clean and tidy. One of Sarah's favorite things to do was to take long, relaxing showers, where she would lather her hair with her favorite shampoo and let the warm water wash away all of her worries.
One day, as Sarah was getting ready for her shower, she noticed that her shampoo bottle was almost empty. She made a mental note to pick up a new one on her way home from work that evening.
As she stepped into the shower, Sarah let out a sigh of relief and began to wash her hair. She closed her eyes and leaned back, enjoying the feeling of the warm water cascading over her body. Suddenly, she heard a loud crash from the other room.
Sarah quickly turned off the water and wrapped a towel around herself, rushing to see what had happened. When she entered the living room, she was shocked to see that her computer had fallen off of her desk and smashed into pieces on the floor.
Sarah was devastated. Her computer was her lifeline to the outside world, and she relied on it for work, communication, and entertainment. She didn't know what she was going to do without it.
As she stood there, staring at the broken pieces of her computer, Sarah's eyes landed on the picture frame on the bookshelf across the room. It was a photo of her and her best friend from their trip to Europe last year. Sarah smiled, remembering all of the fun they had and the memories they had made.
In that moment, Sarah realized that material possessions were not as important as the people and experiences in her life. She decided to let go of her attachment to her computer and instead focus on the things that truly mattered.
She cleaned up the mess, put on a warm sweater, and went outside for a walk. As she strolled through the streets, taking in the sights and sounds of the city, Sarah felt happier and more content than she had in a long time. She realized that sometimes, the best things in life are the ones that cannot be broken."
9. Fact finding?
I tried asking for a concrete fact, but ChatGPT couldn't help me. It said, "As a large language model trained by OpenAI, I do not have the ability to access specific information about the richest county in America in the year 2000. My knowledge is based solely on the text that I have been trained on, and I do not have the ability to browse the web or access external information. My purpose is to assist with general questions and provide information to the best of my ability based on my training. Is there something else I can help you with?"
10. Brainstorming ideas
The AI idea generator here at NotePD is pretty good at this already, but I was curious how ChatGPT would respond to an idea question. I asked it, "Based on your knowledge, what are some possible ways to invest one thousand dollars?"
It replied, "There are many possible ways to invest one thousand dollars, depending on your financial goals and risk tolerance. Some options to consider might include:
It is important to research and carefully consider your options before making any investment decisions. It may also be helpful to consult with a financial advisor to discuss your specific situation and determine the best course of action."
