What Isn't Available During A Power Outage
We lost power in our neighborhood at 9pm last night. Still out now (writing this at work), repair time changed from 11:30pm to 6:30am to 8:30am.
What don't we have during a power outage? And, we really should get a generator.
1. Lights
Had to find / break out the lantern and flashlights.
2. Clocks
We have a few electric clocks around the house.
3. Refrigerator / Freezer
If long term outage, can lose the food. And best practice is to limit in/out during the outage.
4. Internet / WiFi
5. TV / Cable
6. Computer
7. Washer / Dryer
Son was washing his work clothes, washer stopped a few minutes into the cycle. And he won't take them up to the MIL's house, who is 1.5 miles away. His answer... call out.
8. Stove
Gas provides the heat, but the stove and burners are electric start. And when I looked for a lighter or matches, none to be found (wife and kid have a habit of not returning things to where they -should- be)
9. Heat
It's not cold enough yet to be a major factor, but it was in the low 50's (F) overnight.
10. COFFEE MAKER
This, by far, was the worst. But I did stop at Dunkin on the way in for my partial fix. And got three apple fritters!
