What were your worst experiences at jobs you worked at?

    1. The Chicken Coop

I worked in a building with no windows. It was known as the chicken coop. It should have been a great job but the people I worked with were obstructive. We ate lunch in our cars. I gave it 7 weeks, then resigned.

    2. The Maternity Leave

I started a job just as my official boss was going on maternity leave. In her absence I ran a team, started and managed a number of projects, presented the projects to the entire company at an all company event. My official boss returned from maternity leave after about two years. She worked two days a week. She alienated my team. She told everyone that she was responsible for initiating the projects that I ran. People kept coming up to me to tell me this. Eventually I resigned. The MD called me and asked me to stay, knowing all the work I’d done but there were a lot of politics involved. My boss’ boss, also a Director, was her godmother and sided with her. I was on a hiding to nothing. On the day I left, people kept telling me it was all wrong. These things happen. Sometimes you either choose a new path or you’re put on one.

    3. The French Man

My lovely boss died. I was redeployed in another part of the company working for a French man. I'd just sourced and negotiated new offices for the company run by the lovely boss. I'd furnished it, had it decorated and partitioned. I needed to repeat the process for the French man. I sourced office premises, created budgets, and made a short list with my top recommendation. He doubted my decisions and said he would have to do the whole thing again himself. The worst thing for me, he told me I didn't understand him when he spoke French and had misunderstood his instructions. I hadn't. I went to HR, run by a long time colleague of my lovely boss. I negotiated an exit package. Soon after I moved from London and started a new chapter. It always felt that my lovely boss had something to do with it. Oh, and the business run by the French man took on a lease in the offices I'd recommended!!!
